A diet worth considering if you have tube shunts...

My main concern at the moment is low pressure and blurry vision but I'm also worrying about my pressure going too high causing fibrosis and my tubes to stop working. After a small amount of research I've found that the main risk for this is cytokines which cause inflammation. It seems logical then that foods which prevent cytokines will improve the odds of long-term success. Polyphenols are apparently adept at this so a mainly plants based diet with a small amount of fish, chicken and eggs could be the way to go... google.com/amp/s/www.wikiho...

Thank you for the information about cytokines and how to reduce inflammation.

It is a good article and luckily refers to an enjoyable, healthy Mediterranean diet and lifestyle.

You're welcome :-) The tricky one on there is green tea as caffeine (according to some sources) raises IOP but it's also anti-inflammatory...

One thing not mentioned in the article about cytokines is that resveratol is also available in red grape juice ( as well as red wine ) Grape juice is high in sugar so I just dilute it by two thirds water in a standard glass.

I agree that decaf green tea is available . Rooibos tea is easily available in supermarkets, the earl grey flavour is very good and this 'tea' is also caffeine free , full of antioxidants and very good for health.

Rooibos tea is actually very nice I got it earlier this year from an organic shop, had no idea until now that it's caffeine free so thanks for that, will definitely switch to this and probably a non-dairy milk such as almond milk, although I have had problems with this curdling in the past.

Yes, I think Rooibos tastes good too and it is available in several supermarkets.

Thanks for the info. Interested that this broadly reflects the food I eat and have done for a few years now. Exercising with a half hour walk daily is also good. Biggest thing is to manage stress levels. Walking can also help with this. Water isn’t mentioned here but regular small intake is good for your body and I would say helps body maintain balance. A body in balance will manage inflammation I reckon. 🙂
