I have been asked by DVLA to have a field vision test and they have given me the choice of Specsavers branches to contact. Both have different equipment. I am wondering what the difference is between the Zeiss HFA3 830 and the Humphry740i.
(I have had field vision tests at my opticians but can never see the dark lines that flash up. I do however prefer the equipment that uses the flashing lights method as at our Community Eye Care centres).

I have had DVLA visual field test twice now, first at Specsavers in Ringwood, the second time three years later at Specsavers Weymouth. Very few branches seem to have the machines for this now and the people at the Weymouth branch said it will be even fewer as DVLA is changing the type of machine required and most branches can’t afford the expense. Both branches had the flashing light type and the Weymouth one was very user-friendly and the staff were lovely. Sorry, I didn’t keep a note of the machine model. They allow three tries at the test, to make nervousness doesn’t cause failure! Good luck!
Hello Daveeeuk. All of the visual field test machines used for the DVLA test have flashing lights. Unlike the ones at the hospital the brightness is constant and they do not fade from bright to soft. When you go for your test ask them to explain how the machine works before you start the test. Also remember that you can ask them to pause the test if you feel uncomfortable. You can have up to three tests at the time of the appointment if they feel it necessary. Humphreys are made by Zeiss so they will just be different models.
