I had glaucoma diagnosed in 2016. My mother also had it and my sister. Since diagnosis I have had repeated optic disc haemorrhages in both eyes despite my pressures being on average about 15.( Normal tension glaucoma)
The eye drops have frequently been changed and I am now on Simbrinza and Bimatoprost. Two Laser Trabuloplasties seemed to help for only a few months each time. I am due to have field of vision etc in one month and my optometrist has said the next step may be surgery.
My diet is full of fruit and veg, I get plenty of exercise and sleep with a raised bed head as I have low blood pressure. My general health is good but I had Drug induced Lupus 20years ago which has left me with some bursitis at times.
Has anyone any ideas to help to stop the optic disc bleeds ? I should be very grateful to hear them.

The optic disc bleeds are a sign of worsening glaucoma and your eye pressure needs to be lower than it is now. The best form of treatment would be to have eye surgery called a Trabeculectomy. You should discuss this with your consultant.
Thank you, I am booked in to have F.O.V etc at the hospital early next month. The consultant will look at the results and then I hope I get another appointment to see him .
The hospital is always desperately busy. ( Taunton) Is there anywhere else in the south west that is good for eye surgery ? Just incase!
We cannot recommend but you can ask your GP to refer you to whatever eye hospital you want to go to for a second opinion. Just remember referrals for second opinions can take up to 2-3months normally but due to the Covid-19 there will be delays. Alternatively, if you are able to see someone privately this is another option which you can try and you will not have to go through your GP to do so. Some patients worry that their consultant will find out about them wanting a second opinion but this is never the case. Also it is important that while waiting for a referral or private appointment you must attend any appointments booked at the hospital you attend now.
I have contacted the optometrist who discovered the bleeds this week as I realise my next appointment is only an assesment at the hospital and not with a clinician. He is going to phone back today, he specialises in Glaucoma and also works at the hospital.
