Can anyone suggest a tin opener as my hands are swelling up?

Hi

There are various ones on the market, we have an electric one that we can use and also a battery operated one that can be put on the can and press the button and it removes the lid. Also we have a jar opener that also is battery operated but does remove the bottle lids with no fuss.

These can be found on most disabled sites and also if you have a department store like John Lewis or Debenhams. They are about £10.00 or so but are invaluable once you have them, you wonder how you managed without them.

I have a kenwood can opener. You present the tin to the opener put down the handle which engages and holds the tin.

I did try the battery operated one but with juice every where, sharp edges and frequent spills ie the whole thing, tin and opener fell over.

The mains operated one is so much better as one does not have to keep hold of the tin, one rarely gets the contents of the tin all over my hands and work top. The magnet keeps hold of the lid so minimal contact required.

Culinaire one touch can opener, I have been using one for 6 years and its brilliant and available in most major supermarkets. I have not had to change the batteries yet either!

I use the JML one touch can opener and find it invaluble I bought that one as my Mum had the culinaire one and the batteries went whilst on the tin and they couldn't get to be able to open the battery compartment as it's underneath the opener so obscured by the tin or get the opener off the tin because the batteries had gone, The JML battery compartment is on the top so easy to get to if the batteries go whilst opening the tin.

I have the culinaire jar opener though we'd never get any jars open without it!

Thanks for the answers to my question. I have now bought a Kenwood electric (plug in) tin opener.
