I believe there is a kidney disease site on HU. You would likely get more information there.
My dad had a kidney removed at the beginning of November due to cancer. He had it done Tuesday, home Saturday. They anticipated an earlier discharge but there were problems with the catheter. He had to take it easy for a while, I'd say about 6 weeks but in the new year he started to take walks, building up to 8-10 miles a day. He's a painter and decorator and started to work again about March. (Part time, he's semi retired in his 70s) I'd say by end of January you wouldn't have guessed he'd had surgery.
