FND Headache

As so know I am a for a teenage boy dx with CRPS and FND.Every school day I try to get him in (despite what he is going through) as attendance is only 30%.

Last Sunday he had pain in his heel followed by a bad nights sleep with that and then chronic headaches. I quite often wake up to messages which were sent early morning (asking me not to wake him), when he couldn't sleep. This morning it was:

"my head won’t stop pounding, bang bang bang bang - my head" (similar to last Wed).

Any suggestions?

He is sleeping now and I have popped the "headache hat" in the fridge to cool as it seems to give some relief, be it for the short period he is allowed to wear it.

Oh no, poor you and your son. He really needs an urgent referral to a headache specialist and in the meantime it might be work calling The Migraine Trust helpline.

Thanks, good advice, appreciate it.

Wouldn't surprise me if concerns of further education are weighing on his mind. His pillow was all scrunched up last night and he fell asleep in a weird position, so I had to disturb him but was awake again at 3am and up all night :-(

I was searching for a weighted eye mask this morning and found a really good one and a pillow (but pricey) on the Ostrich site (found via a link), but I guess anything is worth it to help him.

I am sorry to read your post. A neurologist or a doctor who treats headaches is someone you should seek. Pain meds may help, but it may not, hence seek medical advice. I am assuming you ruled out already.

Thanks.

Its a difficult one to call because he is still on devices, although limited him to one at a time and told he he needs to take regular breaks (although it does distract him from focusing on the pain), teenagers eh.

Made him up a sensory peppermint roller earlier, so will see if that makes any difference if he wakes in the early hours.

He was in so much pain in the night that he took para, which he is convinced doesn't make a difference and it didn't.

Looking back at my diary over the years I was reminded that one time he suffered for over 8 weeks, so going check in with the GP.

Also been told about specific nerve stimulation that can help and can be done DIY with TENS machine but waiting video/images to follow before applying.

I suffered with migraine for 35 years. My heart goes out to you both. Please talk to his doctor and neurologist. There are many preventative daily meds now and some acute care meds that can treat migraine within 30 min. A daily preventative in the last 3 years was a game changer for me. Also magnesium can be taken if your neuro agrees-those of us with migraine are often difficient and it can stop or prevent migraines if taken daily. I hope you can get some good help for your son.

Hi thanks for the advice

Think its Chronic Daily Headache (as pounding headache all over) poss due to having CRPS too, although Dr said that was only to do with his previous leg spasms (leg area) and disagreed he couldn't have it elsewhere (it made sense to me if he was sensitive to pain in general).

His Magnesium levels were checked last bloods, only thyroid levels out of range and retest and told to get vit D supplement.

Never offered any stronger meds (although not my preferred route), awaiting "talking therapy" with Neuro Specialist and have requested Dr writes to Neuro for fMRI and hyper sensitive too.

He was right re CRPS (so I did apologise (this usually only affects the limbs). The headaches must be due to post concussion following falls and bangs to the head.
