Re USA psychiatrists wanting to keep FND in DSM so they can claim their fees via the DSM codes ... according to DSM there are no DSM codes.

I just found this in DSM and it predates the last FND meeting by several years so Prof Stone did not need to cave in to the American psychiatrists regarding the removal of FND from DSM.

'There are no DSM codes. The codes appearing in DSM-5 in addition to the ICD-10-CM codes were ICD-9 codes. These codes are no longer valid since ICD-10-CM codes replaced them in the United States starting October 1, 2015. Clinicians should use ICD-10-CM codes to submit claims.'

On that basis - and for many other reasons - I feel that FND does not have a place in DSM and the psychiatrists involved with it need to turn their attention to the health care providers/professionals who are scornful of people with FND since that can't be good for their (the providers) psyches and we know it's not good for patients, whatever condition we have.

Hi Lady4,

For clarification, FND Portal (whoever he is) has reported that some people with FND are encountering scorn in medical settings and experiencing trauma as a result. In my opinion this is not likely to empower patients to better health and it needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency since the 'clinician, heal thyself' deal does not seem to be working.

Does that help?

All best wishes.

Hi, yes got the scornful bit, wasn't quite sure who you were referring to within this bit:for their (the providers) psyches

My hope is that many GP's and specialists diagnosis properly and compassionately and alleviate any further suffering for patients.

For myself, FND symptoms are correlated to acute and chronic stress in my life (30 % of FND people). So, it's for me a neuropsychiatrist disease that I understand like this and accept to live with, even if it's so injust
