Thanks for sharing. I remember trying the distraction techniques, ie lifting my sons other leg which stopped the spasms briefing but what I found fascinating was that one specialist mentioned getting a patient tapping fingers and concentrating on that and then slowing down the tapping which if I understood correctly, slowed down the spasms, ie in sync. Do you know when the other podcasts will be released?, is scrolled down but could not find them.
My pleasure, Lady4. It's a shame that the 'rule in' paper about FND is now behind a paywall (I can read the abstract, but not the full paper). Yes, the entrainable tremor information is very interesting although I'm not sure why it's not considered to be a slightly enviable super power rather than indicative of a core neuropsychiatric condition that gets people an automatic DSM label. I don't know when the other podcasts will be released. Also PPPD isn't a new phenotype - it's been on Prof Stone's neurosymptoms site for well over a decade and it is being over promoted and over diagnosed, as is Functional Cognitive Disorder.
Agree re the rule in paper the GPs are just using the "diagnosis of exclusion" and they are the first port of call and should be signposting for anxiety support because the longer you wait and nothing happens tbe likelihood of things getting worse and then you have to deal with additional symptoms.
Can you please seend the link to the graphic novel on the FND Hope site, pretty sure it was one of your posts.
One GP I spoke to said she was dealing with the fallout of people who have been given 'dustbin' diagnoses and hadn't been properly trained re how to make the dx accurately, so she felt as disempowered as her patients.
I didn't post about the graphic novel so don't know where the link is, sorry.
Thanks, I will find it, was googling on my phone and couldn't recall the name, probably forwarded to my son like the workbook, so will check there first.
