GDNF Parkinson's Disease Trial - potential for FND?

Recently, there's been a documentary on the BBC about a drug trail for Parkinson's Disease. It was rather sad to watch because although some improved on the GDNF drug (which is supposed to help restore brain cells in areas that control movement where it's delivered) and clearly felt that it was working for them, the trial didn't achieve it's main outcome and the pharmaceutical companies have pulled out of this research and aren't going to fund any more research into neuroscience, which doesn't help anyone except them.

The people who worked on the trial seem to be convinced it works and needs further research, but they need funding to carry on. Parkinson's UK are trying to raise funding for this to happen.

I feel that we're in danger of losing what could be one of the best treatments for Parkinson's Disease that could potentially lead to a treatment for any neuro diseases involving brain loss if it's proven to work.

I saw that, it was devastating. Even the professionals were rendered speechless in the meeting when the results were read out!

Clearly the tests didn't give the full picture.
