Do most of you diagnosed with FND have pain? My son just got diagnosed with it and I don’t believe it at all. I think he has paraneoplastic or AE or maybe something else. He never has pain.

Pain?
I have pain but nothing to do with my allegedly ''functional'' symptom. My pain is from muscle stiffness and spinal issues.
I see a lot of very young people with FND in the FB groups who are in a lot of pain and consequently on stacks of very potent and addictive drugs.
This confuses me as I dont understand what is being treated if there isnt a cause. Mostof them say they don't work anyway. So worrying.
It lists 'Pain' on all the FND websites as a symptom but this is far too generic and vague for me.
I really hope you get to the bottom of what is wrong with your son. Keep pushing, it must be very worrying.
I suffer from terrible pain to the point where im crying, pacing and cant sleep. It comes in cycles..usually following a virus. I have joint pain & bone pain that feels like toothache in your body, and sciatic type pain. Also have terrible muscle spasms. I also have dystonia though so the pain may be attributed to this illness as well fnd. My own gp is not particularly happy with my fnd diagnosis and is currently running more tests, Lupus, Epstien Barr etc to rule out other factors so keep pushing for your son. Good luck. X

I have pain in my right foot, left elbow and now up right side by my ribs. Its sharp, stabbing, electric shocks and burning. It tends to be worse if I focus on it so clearly gets worse when my pain worsens and I can't ignore it, it's a domino effect. It's also worse with any kind of stress and with weather changes. I also have involuntary muscle movements that come and go. Some myoclonic jerking. I have difficulty sitting still to relax at night but no anxiety or depression. I also have Fibromyalgia and hypothyroidism. Does this sound like anyone else? I think that we are all lumped into one diagnosis but symptoms vary considerably.
You said you have hypothyroidism. Have you been checked for Hashimotos Encephalitis? Have you had your thyroid antibodies checked lately? Have you had other antibodies checked? You may have AE.
My understanding is that FND could cause pain, but I would suggest to keep doing tests for your son. I agree that sometimes it feels like FND is a category they throw you in because they have no other explanation. But FND should only be diagnosed with a positive test for it , not just negative tests for other things. Our brain and central nervous system are very complicated and there is still a lot of research that needs to be done. As a mother, I feel that if you don’t advocate for your child at the doctors office no one else will. I hope your son improves soon!
Yes, I have constant pain all of the time. But I don't think this is FND. I have nerve damage from previously missed vitamin deficiencies. My "FND" has now become fibromyalgia instead, but my doctors aren't really happy with that diagnosis either. That's just sort of where I fit for now.
I have pain. The more awake I am, the worse it is.
I have constant burning neurological pain over 90% of my body. Was diagnosed with FND last week after suffering for 13 months. Not sure if I believe it, still think could be autoimmune issue
