Acceptance?

Has anyone found that while reading about their symptoms/FND, they become worse? I have purchased a few books which have been recommended for understanding my FND; I cannot seem to get through even a page without seizing up, becoming very overwhelmed and then eventually having convulsions.

I wonder if anyone has experienced a similar thing?

The book list I am trying (and failing!!) to get through, in case it might be helpful for anyone:

The Body Keeps the Score: mind, brain and body in the transformation of trauma

When the Body Says No: the cost of hidden stress

It Didn't Start with You: how inherited family trauma shapes who we are and how to end the cycle

Overcoming Functional Neurological Symptoms: a 5 areas approach

Dissociation Resource Guide

Psychogenic Non-epileptic seizures: a guide

Hi, I am also reading The body keeps the score. I take it in small chunks and dont experience any extra symptoms but cant take in too much info at a time so take it in small chunks.

I am also looking fw to receiving another book I just ordered 'Doing Harm; The Truth About How Bad Medicine and Lazy Science Leave Women Misdiagnosed and Sick' !

Yes..it seems that pacing is important with this too. Thanks for the recommendation 👍

It’s most likely that you are getting stressed reading the book and this can cause your symptoms to become worse as stress is a trigger.

Yes! It is characteristic of the condition. I have noticed it more when I am explaining to people what FND is all about. As the discussion continues my speech is more affected with stutter, stammer and word loss, and I talk more slowly. If the discussion is longer the myoclonic spasms and distonia present themselves.
