Hi, I’m 17 and only got diagnosed a few days ago. I’m really confused, in a lot of pain and full of questions.

How does treatment work? What is the treatment?

Is this going to majorly impact my whole life?

Are there any recommendations for pain relief?

My neurologist expressed how it’s a long recovery process and how in some cases there can be cures, but what if there isn’t? Then what?

More insight would be appreciated, Thankyou

Hi Comoo, Have you Joined our support group at fndhopeorg ? There is so much information on there that will help you on your Journey with Fnd. Firstly there isnt that much medication wise that helps our condition, depends what your symptoms are really, You can see a PT If your neurologist thinks you need one to help with strengthing your muscles, You could do CBT. Sadly I would say it is going to have an huge impact on your life, once again depends on your symptoms, Do you have seizures/tremors/walk issues etc. You will have to learn how to Pace yourself and listen to your body more, we tend to push ourselves until we are so much pain we cant move, this isnt the way to do things, you will learn this along the way. Ive never heard of a Cure but i do know some people can go into remission , so last for quite along time and some relapse, just depends on the person i guess. Have you had your B12 and Vitamin D checked? we tend to be lacking in these vitamins, I know alot of us take Magnesium vitamins which cn help and if you get restless legs or twitches you can get a spray with Magnesium in it from Holland and barrett or Amazon, I use heat pads and warming creams, sometimes it helps others it doesnt.. Hope ive managed to answer some of your questions for you, Good luck xxx

I recommend reading or listening to the book Functional Neurologic Disorders, volume 139 of the Handbook of Clinical Neurology. It has a section on treatments and a chapter on prognosis.

Try to adjust your brain to the pain.
