Has anyone been able to claim PIP for FND

Has anyone been successful at claiming for personal independence payment for FND. I've lost my job and cannot work and my husband has had to give up work to look after me and we have no income. We are desperate but the system takes so long to get anywhere

Sorry to hear about your struggles. FND has left me severely disabled, so yes, I receive PIP. From what I can gather, people whose symptoms vary from day-to-day seem to have more trouble claiming. Pretty much the only perk of being permanently broken is that it makes it harder for them to dispute a claim. If neither of you are working, and you require care, your husband should be able to claim Carers Allowance too. I find the Money Saving Expert website a really useful source of information about benefit entitlement, so I would look on there if I were you. Good luck. I hope you don't have to wait too long for it to come through 🤞

Thank you so much for replying. I really hope they say yes to my reconsideration appeal. I am a, staff nurse and work are putting me up for ill health retirement so no going back for me.Can I ask did they look at it as, a, physical or mental illness or both through pip.

Physical. My FND was caused by the way my body responded to a virus (I already had CFS following Glandular fever way back in my teens, which apparently left me vunerable). I think a supportive GP and neurologist backing me up helped with my application. Mind you, I was also lucky with the PIP assessor I got! I have heard some horror stories, but mine told me I had underexagerated my limitations on the form and so her report bumped me up to higher level for both mobility and care. I really wish everyone had that experience, that's how it should be!! Being ill and losing your income, independence and life choices is bad enough, without being made to feel like you have to beg for help you're entitled to. I really hope you get a human being to help you during your appeal 🤞🍀🤞

Hi there,Agree with all said by sykgirl(Hi hon)

Unfortunately you need to go through the system, get onto them straight away and tell them your circumstances, you will probably qualify for a lot of things which will help you live as you are, in the meantime you are expected to fend for yourselves!!!-you will probably qualify for PIP if, ask for the forms and ask your GP to send an ocupational therapist to your house, which means social services, he or she will access you. If you act quickly, Payment should be sooner, you need to get onto your GP asap and explain what has happened to you and that your hubbie is your carer, also for you to get appropriate medication, they should get the ball rolling. You have to be assesed for PIP, and they will go on what they see etc, Dont wait, tell them you cannot live etc, and be brutal, so as they understand your circumstances, help is there for you, but unfortunately its a fight, like everything else!!! I am so sorry that this has happened to you and wish you all the best, but get onto it now!xxxxx

Thank you so much for your reply. Definitely learning the hard way that you have to fight for everything. It's such a shame. That everything takes not just weeks but months. So lovely to make some connections to people that have an insight on what reality of life is actually really like. Xx
