Hi Kate

I normally only lose my speech when I have a seizure. It's a really strange feeling as you think what you want to say but it just doesn't come out. My mouth is usually paralysed to and takes a while before it begins to work again. I usually start by concentrating on trying to say a single word first and that usually starts things off and my speech slowly returns. I also find if people chat to me slowly and make me laugh first it helps. Try not to let it go on too long as the more you will drift along with it , do you have family or friends that could help you and perhaps contact your doctor as it sounds like the trauma of the deer has really affected you and triggered this off . Sending you lots of hugs x

These things can be scary but try not to let it affect you too much. The more you try and force yourself to speak, the more upset you will get. Firstly, try some breathing exercises, or listening to music, or colouring or anything that helps you to feel calmer. Put your focus onto that rather than speaking. When you feel calmer, you can try Ailsaw's suggestion of just one word at a time.
