Recommendations for med oncologist in New England ??

I'm currently seeing Dr. Chris Sweeney at Dana Farber, but he is returning to Australia (his motherland) later this year. Apparently they will assign me another doctor based on availability and schedule, but I would rather take the initiative and choose a "good" fit even if I have to start with him/her as a new patient.

Any recommendations either at Dana Farber or Maine, New Hampshire, or other Massachusetts locations?

Thank you in advance.

Josh

Josh,

If you stay in Boston, then Alicia Morgans would be my choice, but I think DougNOLA is right....Sartor is tops IMHO... You will not go wrong either way....

jdm,

I'll repeat for the larger audience here what I wrote in PM chat to you last night, i.e.:

I see you are in the market for a new MO. I guess Marnie must have called Sweeney back home to the Land of OZ?

I'm with DougFromNOLA and would think you could not do better than Sartor. After all, you DO have convenient transportation and a very good friend in the neighborhood. (With the ability to choose any MO in the US, Sartor would hands down be my 1st choice.)

Alicia Morgans also is a superstar MO and is now Medical Director of the Survivorship Program at D-F CI, whatever that is. (However, surviving is a good thing to be connected with, so that should be a plus.) Just based on all her interview videos at PCF, she is probably one of the best informed MOs in the country. Not at all a bad second choice.

Although (as we all learn over time) it is difficult to know how we will "mesh" with any new doc, I'm sure you will make a good choice. Getting out in front of an administrative hand-off is a very good idea to help make sure that "mesh" is a good one.

I'll check around when I'm in NH to see if anyone has any NE contacts that might be of help. In the meantime, get back to your end of season gardening and sprouting. Good food for good health. What's not to like about that?

See you in Sept? Ciao - K9 Terror

Thank you both (Fish and Cujoe).

Yes, Dr. Sartor would be a great choice and it may even be faster to get to NOLA than driving into Boston during rush hour for a 9:00am blood draw. I will give that some thought and perhaps explore the possibility of being a remote patient and doing my own labs and meeting with him via Zoom or whatever.

I was surprised a few months ago when I learned Alicia Morgans is at DFCI now. It seems she just moved to Northwestern recently. Not sure if I could get in with her, but may ask scheduling about that too. She got her MD at my alma mater, Univ. of Pennsylvania, so maybe the secret handshake will do the trick 🙄.

Probably a blessing in disguise that Dr. Sweeney is leaving. He's a good guy, but more interested in drug development and trials than patients. He is engaging, but I get the feeling he doesn't think outside the SOP and we are each just another data point in their research. Time for a new MO that may be able to share new ideas and perspective.

Sprout on,

Josh 🥦
