my husband is 51 I'm 38 ,just found out he has prostrate cancer plus very tumour on it to ,also biopsy shows its grade9 psa level 19.9 also it aggressive fast growming cancer what next ?any one please he says he will not have treatment x

That's about the same as I had, had hormone therapy and 37 sessions of radiotherapy, That cured it!

First of all, easy to say, but DONT PANIC. You did not say whether or not the cancer had spread out I'd the pouch and metastasised. This will have a great bearing on what treatment your husband will have. Rest assured, there are very successful treatments either way to cure or help your husband.

Ten years ago, at the age of 59 I was diagnosed with a PSA of 760, Gleason 9 and spread over most of my skeleton. I am active, busy, in no pain and I live a totally normal life. In fact, I consider the last ten years to have been the best years of my life.

Hi. As has already been mentioned the treatment depends on whether the tumour is located within the prostate gland or has spread. I assume that he has had an mp-MRI to establish this. If it is contained and requires treatment the choices seem to be a radical prostatectomy (usually by Da Vinci robot), radiotherapy or brachytherapy. There is also high frequency ultrasound therapy (HIFU). This can be focused just on the affected area of the gland and so may preserve some of the function. It also does not have the side effects of the more radical treatments. When I found that I had Ca prostate I search on amazon for a book to get an overall perspective.

There may be some immune treatments or others in clinical trials, you could try the UCL website to see if there are any new treatments available that you might like to consider which would also help move the science on.

Hello. A PSA of 19.9 and a Gleason of 9 are both high, particularly the Gleason score which indicates an aggressive cancer. I would advise that hubby follows the advice of the Oncologist,Urologist. My PSA was only 5 in July 2015 (at age 74). Rectum exam showed Gleason of 3+5 = 8, an aggressive score. MRI, CT and bone scans showed the cancer was contained in the prostate and had not spread. I was offered a radical prostatectomy by Da Vinci robot controlled keyhole surgery, which I accepted. Had that in Nov 2015. PSA since then has been 0.01.

Your hubby is only 51. The treatment depends on whether the cancer is contained or has spread. (I have just seen your earlier reply that the cancer is not contained, sorry). That rules out prostatectomy. There are lots of other treatments however. I hope that whatever is given, that it will help and will result in many years of life yet.

We are all different. BUT we all understand what you are going through at this time.

I am on here looking through my husband's posts and replies - just to make sure there is nothing we have missed and I know exactly what you mean here. I had a big health scare last year and managed to navigate my way around things and Des was so good. Now that it is him things are so different. Stay strong. You need to be strong for both of you and get all the information you need. If you are in the UK get onto a Prostate Cancer Nurse talk to her and ask them to send you the Prostate Cancer Toolkit - it contains lots of leaflets you may need to read to and also a list of all pamphlets they have so that you can send for them as you need them. To speak to a specialist nurse on prostate cancer UK call 0800 074 8383. Well worth it.
