Besremi

I am about start Besremi. I just wanted to know how people are doing on it. I am hoping to get it this week. My Hct has done well from the start, took 8mos before I had to have another phlebotomy, but my wbcs and platelets are really high. I just want someone to reassure me! I am a 40 year old working mom who can take a lot. Will just be reassuring to hear others that are doing ok on this medication.

I have been taking Besremi since February 2022. I started on Pegasys in May 2021. I had been relying on phlebotomies-only for several years prior to that. The iron deficiency symptoms were worse than the PV symptoms. I am hydroxyurea-intolerant and it did not work well for me. HU was way worse than the PV.

My only regret is that I waited as long as I did to start on the interferons. Besremi has been very effective in controlling the erythrocytosis and thrombocytosis. Side effects have been minimal and easily controlled. I have been able to maintain a complete hematologic response. I am hopeful that I will also see a molecular remission. At a minimum, I know that Besremi offers the best chance to prevent progression of the PV of any of our current treatment options.

I would also note that I simply feel better on Besremi. My energy levels restored when my iron levels were improved. I can concentrate better as well. On the whole, Besremi is the best treatment option I have experienced in 30 years with a MPN.

This is so helpful! And to know people have had this for 30 years and still going is comforting. As I have mentioned I have a little girl that I need to focus on. Everyone has made me feel so much better about this! I am actually looking forward to it. I appreciate all of your help!
