Have you seen your GP about it because it may be something else completely other than fibro. Your GP may refer you to a gastroenterologist consultant and possible endoscopy to see what is happening.

Yes I have , It's seems to be calming down now. I had a problem swallowing food even felt at times asthough I had a lump in my throat . It was worst through from September till January , I did mention it to my doctor. I couldn't eat soya cheese because it just wouldn't go down. I completely cut out all foods that annoyed it. I also haven't cooked withTeflon or non stick just incase. It seems ok at the mo. I used to get a funny feeling in my throat just when I swallowed water it was so bad. All good now tho , touch wood. I would mention it to your GP tho . Reason being thyroid , mine checked out ok I did have it checked . If it comes back again I will defiantly push it to get my throat looked at . X

I get this problem too..... I'm often choking on food, water and even saliva, also struggle to breathe, mentioned it a while back to my GP who didn't say anything and was not interested.

I never connected it before to be honest. x

I suffer with Generalised Anxiety disorder alongside my fibro and other things. Anyway I have had phases of this since i was in my teens (now 45) in 2001 after a period of a few years of stress etc it started badly and I was told by my GP it's called Globus Syndrome (or Globus Hystericus to give it it's full name) The following year it got so bad I couldn't even swallow any drink, my saliva, let alone food, became very ill and to cut a long story short after a spell in hosp having test after test they said it was a psychological problem and I got admitted to the Mental Health Unit in the hosp for treatment. Had a brilliant Psychiatrist who explained that my anxiety had got acute and sometimes it manifests in a physical manner in some people. With me it's swallowing, some people can even lose their eyesight. Once I was started on a liquid form of Prozac and had treatment to help me understand it wasn't a physical thing it got better and I started to eat and was discharged as I got better. I still have periods to date where it starts up a bit and it takes me ages to eat my dinner, but now I know it's not physical thing it helps me get thru it. my GP also gives me diazepam to take when I'm bad.

Can you relate to any of this? I hope this helps - I'm not saying this is what's ging on with you, and at the end of the day if you're concerned, please go see your GP.

All the best. Take care. Nikki xx

Hi, I had this problem for a few years on and off but luckily seems to have passed now. I noticed it was more likely to hapepn if I was in a situation where I was slightly anxious. I mentioned it to my GP who didn't really say anything so I had no idea if it is connected to fibro. I found it quite distressing at times so hopefully it will pass for you too. x

Hey there fellow fibromite :-)

I also have this problem but it seems to come and go randomly with food but happens daily with drinking where I actually have to hold the fluid in my mouth until it feels like a lump has gone and the fluid is free to go down. With food, I start choking, almost like the food has gone down the wrong pipe so to speak and coughing can last for ages. I have not mentioned it to my GP as it seems a minor thing compared to everything else, however I have put it down to the fibro monster.

I hope you can get to manage it.

Regards

Mel

Hi yes I have had problems for some months now.It started with what the GP thought was a couple of bouts of oral thrush.I couldn't eat anything solid as my throat burned and my mouth was dry, cracked and sore.As it was treated I still had swallowing problems which I also put down to fibro.I had an appointment last week to have an endoscopy. They said my esophagus was ok but I have a hiatus hernia. I still can't swallow properly and if I do.It feels as if the muscles are collapsing inwards.

Hi I have this problem too, it's like my food gets stuck in my throat and I can't swallow then I can't breathe and I start panicking , I have to cough up what I have tried to swallow. It's not a nice feeling I have read a lot of people who have fibro have this problem .

Yes I have had swallowing problems for four years now about same time I've had fm diagnosis.Had tests for sjorgrens syndrome but difficult to diagnose.Just had my saliva gland washed out but no better so might have to have my saliva gland removed.

Just to throw something else into the mix, an unlikely but possible cause of difficulty swallowing is MS, which (from a fair bit of research) has very similar symptoms to fibro. xx
