Steroids are not a treatment for Fibro, though local steroid injections are sometimes used for conditions alongside Fibro, such as myofascial trigger points. It would be worth checking with your doctor why you have been prescribed these.

Hi eirwen

If you have only been diagnosed with Fibro and these are not being used to rule out/in an inflammatory condition, then there is no clinical reason to give Pred as it is not a treatment for Fibro. Please do check with your doctor. I have come across a few cases over the years where people have been diagnosed with RA or Lupus and their doctors haven't told them! Plus if you do not have an inflammatory condition, you are risking the side effects of Pred for no good reason.

3 years on prednisolone, originally prescribed following double pneumonia and severe worsening asthma. These tablets can make you feel so much better in mood, energy levels etc. and they deal with any type of inflammation within the body. BUT - you will feel permanently ravenous and weight will pile on. The longer you take them the harder it is to get off them, and I now have a serious weight problem which of course makes pain worse, and because of mobility problems impossible to shift the weight. IN Addition, my adrenal glands dont work properly anymore - they are lazy glands that are quite happy to go to sleep whilst you give your body necessary artificial steroids - that's their job!

I strongly recommend you talk to your gp again, check why you have been given them, and ask how long he expects you to take them. About a week or so, unlikely to cause any problems. Long term, I know we're not all the same, but really not so good! Wishing you the very best. :)
