As fibromyalgia is to do with depression that could have been caused by a Trauma. This trauma was caused by a work situation causing me to leave work. Could I put a claim in against my ex-employer?

I have read many times that Trauma can cause Fybromyalgia, Depression seems to be a symptom of Fybromyalgia (mine certainly is because of the drastic change in lifestyle) If this Trauma at work caused your Fybro and depression then I would have thought you would have a case to claim, I am no expert but would strongly suggest you seek legal advice. good luck.

Thanks for the advise. It seems that trauma and depression go hand in hand. It would be nice to find out if a doctor can find an answer so it can help us all.

Fibromyalgia is a condition of the central nervous system and some people with this condition do suffer with depression as a result of the symptoms and pain they suffer.

There is no evidence to confirm that this condition is caused by trauma, there no evidence that it is caused by depression also.

There is evidence to confirm that its due to thyroid not working correctly.

Hi josie46

The theory on thyroid trouble sounds feasble. Where did you find out about the thyroid.

I want to find out who in the Dr's in this country is the best one who can help people with Fibro. Have you heard of anyone?

If there is evidence to confirm that its due to the thyroid not working correctly wouldnt this thyroid malfunction show in blood tests? and why do the doctors not prescribe thyroid meds? THanks for this info, Ive seen my GP a thousand times and two consultants and NEVER had my thyroid mentioned to me :-( and this would make sense as my sister and mother have thyroid problems.

Since I read your report I mentioned my thyroid to the doctor and she found that there was a solid mass and she said she would send me for a scan. What I did receive yesterday was a letter from the local hospital to say they couldn't make me an appointment at the Neurology Dept. I asked my doctor to send me to Manchester for all my medical treatment. So where has the letter gone for the scan. "NOT TO GET STRESSED".

Think it may be very hard to prove but if you feel you have a case then go ahead. Were you in a Union at all. If you were you could contact them and they would advise you. Sometimes it is better to let eleeping dogs lie as the trauma of taking them to court etc, may exacerbate you condition and make you even wor.se. Know how you feel though some employers can make your life a hell.

I'm glad I'm retired now and don't have that stress.

Same here. Some people in a workplace can make your life a hell, especially if you're of a sensitive nature. I worked in a Probation Office prior to leaving through ill health and some of the Officers there treated you like muck and their clients like angels. So much for a caring service. This world is upside down.

I worked for the Council for 18 years before being made redundant and believe me some of the so called bosses had no idea how to treat their staff. Yet when I became a Temp for the council I got treated differently.

It doesn't matter if you are qualified or not it depends on whether your face fits.

At present I am having trouble with my doctors and their staff - sending letters to the wrong hospitals and I have just sent a email to tell them that they should know that a person with Fybro are not to get stressed.

So true lady. Must sa that goes for some doctors as well. There is one in particularin m pracise who doesn't like me; that's because

I've done so much investigation myself into my illness. Told Him I had Fibro and ME years ago and he wouldn't have it until is was proved by a Rheeumatologist and bloods test done at St.Mary's Hosp,London, which showed I had a cerain entervirus that proved positive and indicaed that I was 98% positive of having ME. Paid for all his mself whilst working. He has never liked me since and hat has been since 1990. ME progressed into the Fibro.

It's obvious lady, and again you're so right, my face definitely hasn'tt or never will fit with this doctors.

Cheers.

Good question but I think your biggest problem would be proving it. Could the reason behind the trauma itself be a reason to sue your ex-employer?

Not all fibromites have depression and some that do, got the depression diagnosis long before the fibro one.

Whilst it's true that many fibromites have experienced emotional trauma in their lives, there may be those who don't.

I have heard stories from some who blame a physical trauma for their fibro, after a whiplash injury for example.

For myself, my GP diagnosed fibro after a cancer diagnosis and treatment, yet it is clear to me and those that know me that my abused childhood is the most likely cause. I can't think how any of that would be proveable either way.

It might not hurt to make enquiries however, but do ask yourself if the trauma of focusing on such a stressful activity, might not cause you more damage to both your health and possibly your case, should you go down that route.

Hi Pottydog

I agree that traumas in my life could have been the lead up to the trigger of the last trauma which started with a virus when I started my new job then I had great difficulty in sleeping as the main doors made such a noise even though I complained to management and even the workmen couldn't make it any quieter.

I put up with this for 5yrs then some of the residents caused trouble and we had to leave. This was the worst trauma I have had in my life and when your approaching 60 it was something I diddent need, then within 2 yrs of leaving my husband died. As you can imagine my fibro has increase and so has my athritis.

The Rhumatologist can't seem to sort one thing at a time out and one said I just had to put up with the pain of the arthritis.

I would love to see a really good doctor who can help with the Fibro by explaining things and what are the options.

I think everyone will agree with me!!!

This is a condition of the central nervous system and most people who have blood tests done come back as normal, you need to have a basal temperture test done to confirm if you have problems with your thyroid and have a saliva test done instead of blood test as this is more accurate.

Condition of the central nervous system is brain and spine and there no evidence to show that it is caused by a trauma or child abuse.

There is evidence now to suggest that the sysptoms are caused by thyroid problems and our adrelaine not working propertly.

Have a look at Dr Lowe on fibromyalgia and Thyroids problems.

Hi Josie46

Thanks for your information. I wish I had come to my emails before I went to see my rheumatologist yesterday and perhaps he may have agreed to doing the tests you suggested. Instead I got an injection into my hip and shoulder.

Perhaps when I go to see my GP I will make a suggestion to her, although I am thinking of changing doctors due to the amount of mistakes that have been made just lately.

Regards
