Cpt?
apa.org/ptsd-guideline/trea.... May be this x
Thankyou for replying. Have you ever had this?
No, I did a google... I thought you may have misheard CBT so googled to check!! I’d do some reading up. I hadn’t actually come across it before. Take care x
rethink.org/ is a good site with helpful info also
I had CBT cognitive behavioral therapy this was to help me change the way I do things and to change the way I think about managing everyday tasks that I once could just do without thinking to help me stop longer for what I used to do and to come to terms with what I can do but cpt never heard of it
I'm sure if a doc talks about this without explaining it, s:he'd mean CBT, cognitive behavioural therapy. CPT, cognitive processing therapy, is part of it tho. CBT is according to recent meta-studies one of the main things 'proven' to help with fibro, altho it is mentioned so seldom on forums. I think that's due to the understandable fear that it'd mean it's all in the head, which it isn't. Good psychologists know that and help with understanding how pain works, coping strategies etc., like Jam1861 has explained. If however s:he wrote CPT down then that wd presuppose the context of PTSD/trauma, which for some (20%?) may be one of the causes of their fibro. So it's not unlikely that this cd also have been meant.
I'd thoroughly recommend anyone doing both if you haven't yet. Since I've successfully done a lot of CBT in my life due to things like social phobia & emotional abuse, special pain-CBT wasn't that helpful for me, as I already knew my stuff. And since I got checked that I'd worked well on trauma with a specific trauma therapist when fibro was invisibly growing. I tried 2 therapists last year, but had them stumped. But since I need some more input at the moment, just don't know what exactly, I'm actually going back to the trauma therapist I consulted about 6 years ago.
