I took it for 10 years and apart from feeling nauseous the first few weeks on it I was fine. My GP took me off it and put me on amitryptaline to help with my sleep. Citalopram certainly helped my mental state.

Been on Citalopram since 2004 for depression, but I don't really need it for mental health anymore. I came off of it for three months and my Fibromyalgia pain went through the roof. Amitryptaline never worked for me , so back on Citalopram . Co- codomol gets me off to sleep at night.

Hi there, I took it for many years no problems but it seemed it stopped working for depression/anxiety so 4 years ago I changed to duloxtene and works perfectly for me . Can be trial and error with meds but something that helps us is always welcome. Xx

Hello Taylored. Have been taking Citalopram 10mg on and off for depression and anxiety for about 10 years. I’m now taking 20mg a day long term since being diagnosed with fibromyalgia last year. It has caused weight gain over the years and more now that I can exercise less these days. Otherwise no other side effects. It has helped me cope with the pain of fibro and coming to terms with the diagnosis.

I started off on fluoxetine for depression and then when I got to the highest dose and it stopped working they put me on citalopram. Again I maxed out and then went onto duloxetine, now also mirtazapine and joncia. I don't know that's of any help sorry but it did work for depression for a few years.

Hello, Taylored.I have been using citalopram for many years. It works well for me, better than anything else I've been prescribed. It takes at least a couple of weeks to start working so don't give up. As with any drug it has some fairly minor side effects which reduce with time.

Best of luck, Ian
