Can you return to IVF treatment on the NHS after a unsuccessful cycle through a private clinic?

Since the start pandemic I've had my treatment cancelled numerous times. I was due to start IVF again earlier this month however the day before my injections my treatment got cancelled till further notice. Not sure how long I wait, family members have loaned us money to go private however wanted to check should private IVF not be successful can I go back to my funded IVF treatment under the NHS?

Hey,I’m so sorry my heart goes out to you ❤️, my fertility treatment has also been put on hold since feb last year due to the pandemic and I’m getting really desperate now.

I’m not an expert as I’ve not had ivf yet but I asked a private clinic this question when I had a consultation and they said once you go private you can’t go back to the nhs 😣

It depends on your local NHS trust - usually if you go private then it’s deducted from your NHS ones - so if you were entitled to 3 rounds on NHS and has 1 private then you’d be entitled to 2 rounds on NHS

I’m sorry your treatment has been cancelled, such added stress 😔 where I live you get 1 nhs egg collection and 1 FET. I paid for 1 egg collection first, didn’t have a baby and so could still have the nhs free go. But the FET needs to be from the egg collection on the nhs 🤯 and I got nothing to freeze so I missed it. I think hopefully you should get nhs go if you don’t have a baby as the criteria is / should be nhs treatment for people who don’t have a baby. Bit of a ramble, sorry. Seems the nhs criteria and ccg rules vary a lot. Good luck 🤞 x

Hi. I’m so sorry you keep having your treatment cancelled. I can’t imagine how it must feel to get yourself built up for it, to have it cancelled so last minute. I would check your local CCG policy. We thought about doing this but our CCG said if you fund a private cycle then we can’t go back to NHS (we only get one fresh cycle in our area) xx

I wouldn’t tell the NHS that you have gone private. It’s bad enough that you have had to go private and pay because of the wait time on the NHS, don’t them deduct your previous free cycles on the NHS!

Our trust allowed 2 private treatments before returning. Worth making an enquiry without giving your name.

I wouldn’t tell nhs you have gone private. Cos it happened to me I told them I went private and cos they were meant to give me 3 cycles they gave me only 2 so they normally take the fact that you went private. So go private but don’t mention to then good luck to you ❤️

I personally wouldn’t lie about it.....doctors learn a lot from failed cycles so you’d be starting from scratch with a protocol you potentially know won’t be very successful

Also there are some moral/ethical considerations around lying.....
