High prolactin-failed IVF

My doctor decided to re-test progesterone which was still low however he found that prolactin was six times above the expected range. He had tested day 2 of the cycle transfer and it was normal. I am puzzled how it could have jumped from normal to extremely during an IvF cycle

Hi,

Prolactin is a stress hormon so you could have a jump as a result of stress. Speak to your doctor to have it rechecked and if its still high they should investigate it more.

Thank you for letting me know that hasn’t crossed my mind and I think 4 years of infertility is taking a toll and the issue of prolactin only started two years ago

I had a high prolactin at one point but it wasn't crazy high. Stress can impact your prolactin levels, as can an under active thyroid and ideally so can having a test done not long after waking up. Im also not sure if it was a good idea to test whilst in the middle of an IVF cycle as some medications such as estrogen can affect things too.xx

Hi Ann. The others have explained about stress, so I assume that is all it is down to. Hope all goes well. Diane
