Hi

I’m not sure about your area but it took me and my husband 3 years in total from doctors referral to treatment that in South Wales I’m guessing it could be a big difference between areas and waiting lists

Hope this helps

It really depends on where you are but I had my first consultation at the fertility clinic in the December and started on meds in the following April. I was in Scotland though. I would give your clinic a ring to find out, they should be able to give you a rough idea!xx

After getting our ivf referral and funding approved at the end of the year, we began all our appointments in the Jan and I started injections in the March. That month I had an unsuccessful transfer but 2-3 months later I had an FET that resulted in my beautiful boy! So pretty speedy for us!

Which hospital is it? How long will it take for funding approval? After approval what will be the next step?

It also depends on which hospitals are near you. For example, I’ve having the initial tests and consultation at my nearest hospital but they don’t actually do IVF. So they will refer me to another hospital which then has their own waiting list which I believe is 6 months. If you’re nearest hospital offers the whole service, it’d be quicker. Scotland are a lot quicker than England which is upsetting when you’re in England! X

Hi, i was referred for IVF in February this year, had the funding application appointment in March, heard back a week later, had all prep appointments and just starting now. The hospital i am being seen at has no waiting list though.

I think each clinic is different though.

Our first appointment was May 2017, I’ve just had my transfer... we did stop the process though as the hospital we went to before being referred further told my husband he had HIV. Which obviously wasn’t the case but we had to then consider if we needed that extra stress in our life’s. So we revisited it 6 months later. The new clinic asked us to go away and try again naturally for 6 months as ours is unexplained. So I guess without the 6 months break about 18 months??

As others have said it completely depends on your area and the waiting lists they have at the time, but I was pleasantly surprised with how long we waited.

I’n in South Wales. It took about 9 months from going to the GP and getting a referral to our first appointment at the hospital.

But in those 9 months we went and had a consultation with a private clinic and we paid for all the tests, so by the time our appointment with the NHS came I had all the results ready for them so we didn’t have to wait to have any tests on the NHS (because that would have added on quite a bit of time) This was definitely the best thing we did!

I had an initial consultation with the NHS hospital in September and they told me I’d be called back within a year! (At this point I was very disappointed because I thought this would have been the start) but only 6 weeks later we had a call to attend the fertility clinic and we were ready to start! (As it happens I couldn’t actually start treatment because I wasn’t immune to rubella and so had to have and extra MMR vaccine and so then they wouldn’t start treatment until January, but we were a step closer!)

Good luck with your journey! Xx
