First ivf appointment?

Hi all,

I hope everyone is OK and doing they’re very best with whatever situation they’re in right now 😘

We have just received our appointment through with an ivf consultant. Following my lap and Dye, and my partners 3rd (!) sample - my gynaecologist has said we will be going straight for ivf (we have PCO, endometriosis, I don’t always ovulate, have had high prolactin and my partners results were low count and motility). We have our appointment at a Nottinghamshire hospital and really don’t know what to expect - as I know at some point we will need to chose our clinic?

If anybody has any experience of a first appointment or any tips etc. I’d be really appreciative xx

Hi Pip,

Your story is very similar to mine! We have our initial consultation for IVF on 21st of this month at our chosen clinic. I have endo, and my partner sperm count was a bit naff on his last two. He has another SA next week and I have a pelvic scan in a few weeks.

Your consultant will make you sign lots of papers, maybe send you both for a blood test for HIV (or they may wait until you go to your clinic) then he/she will give you a list of clinics you can choose from and ask you to ring back and let them know which one you choose.

My advice in choosing is research and even go visit the clinic - we visited two clinics and that made our decision as the second clinic was much cleaner, staff were really lovely and we even went to a talk they held in the evening.

Once you have chosen your clinic the waiting time feels like forever, we were extremely lucky that our consultant referred us for IVF beginning of October and we have our initial consultation later this month. The wait is hard but the end goal is worth it.

Its an exciting but scary time, if you think of any questions between now and your first appointment then write them down and ask them. Im sure you probably are but if your not start taking folic acid :) Good luck with everything, always here if you need any help, advice or just a chin wag xxx

Hi Pip89. Good advice from "oharal". I do have a list of questions I can email you if you like, to have a look through before your consultation. Most won't be appropriate, but there may be a few you hadn't thought of asking. You can email me in confidence to support@fertilitynetworkuk.org and I will send them to you. Good luck with it all. Diane
