I’m freaking out 😥 they’ve suggested doing an amnio but the miscarriage risk feels so high. Just feeling so lost. It’s been such a long journey getting here…we thought we had jumped most of our hurdles but now this 😔

In case it is helpful - risk of miscarriage via amnio is basically 0% *if* the fetus is healthy AND you use a person who specializes in doing amnios and does them all the time. If there is a chromosomal issue the miscarriage rate is relatively high and if there are no issues it's very rare. Given most folks get an amnio because there is a suspected issue the rates you are seeing are impacted by fetuses with issues.I've had a CVS and Amnio, both were as a "double check" and no issue was identified via U/S. I was also concerned; my doctor directed me to articles that explain the stats and how they are impacted by fetuses with issues. He has does these a lot and has done over 10,000 and has had 1 miscarriage and it was from a struggling fetus. In short he told me if there are no fetal issues it would be highly unusual to miscarriage. He said I can't tell you 0%, but you know very close.
If termination is not on the table should an issue be found then take the miscarriage risk seriously, but know it isn't common. If your concern is that you might miscarry a healthy pregnancy, then ensure your provider is good and know it is extremely rare.
