Round ligament pain first trimester

PrincessGurn1984 profile image

I was laying down in bed last night and I think I must have sat up funny or too quickly and I got a sudden sharp shooting pain down the right hand side of my stomach, it only lasted about 10/20 seconds and then instantly went. Is that round ligament pain? I’m trying to not over dramatise in my head or I’ll worry I’ve torn or done something to the baby 🙈 I’m 10 weeks x

Hi lovely,

Yep - sounds like round ligament pain. I had it about the same time and it’s excruciating!

It does go after a few weeks but it may come back on and off.

Xx

Thank you! Honestly I can’t think rationally at the moment, I’m never normally like this pre pregnancy over analytical etc 😂 I couldn’t sleep thinking have I torn or ruptured my placenta, what if it’s made the baby detach, what if I’ve made my haematoma bigger. I can’t think straight 🙈🙊 x

Mate I was convinced I had appendicitis!! Don’t Google what happens if you have that and you’re pregnant 😫😣😂 xx

Hi PrincessGurn. It could be. Speak to your midwife about some physiotherapy if it persists. Also keep an eye on urine output in case you could be developing an infection. Hope all soon settles. Diane

oooh yes don’t miss that 🤣 I normally got it either getting in/out of bed or turning in bed. I would let out a yelp as the pain was so sharp. It sometimes felt my ovary had popped. Round ligament pain thankfully doesnt last long when it pings but god it hurts. Just Bubs streching you up getting comfy🥰

I’m afraid so but like I say it’s Bubs getting comfy….sneezing is also one to watch as that used to trigger the ligament pain xx

Ah! I got this in my first pregnancy and getting it again in my 2nd.

It's when I turn in a funny way at night...it is really painful...

I thought it was fairly normal as I had it first time around and my daughter is 100% fine.
