Progesterone

Hi all, I just wondered if anyone else dreaded coming off the progesterone pessaries? I have been on them since egg collection and I'm currently 10 & 1/2 weeks pregnant, had no issues so far I'm just petrified that my body doesn't take over for whatever reason. Am I being silly?

Yes I was the same! My clinic told me to come off them all together after our viability scan at 9 weeks, I had loads left so just gradually weaned myself off them and think by the 12th week I was having one every other day. It’s too scary coming off them straight away. I’m now 25 weeks pregnant! X

This is exactly how I feel! I’m just over 6 weeks and waiting for my scan at the clinic next week. Have been told my progesterone injections and pessaries will stop either way after the scan as the body will take over, but after a prev mmc I’m terrified. I have a spare box of pessaries left over from another cycle, but even if I reduce to 2 per day it’ll only get me through to about 9 1/2 weeks. I’m going to ask my clinic to keep my on then until 12 weeks, but pretty sure they won’t agree 😟 I agree that reducing them down gradually if you have any spares can provide some extra piece of mind. Think it’s understandable to be nervous, but suppose at some point we just have to put trust in our body xx

I actually phoned my clinic and the nurse told me that its time to come off them, she said alot of ladies have this fear. She advised to use what I have then that's it. They have been like a comfort blanket and I suppose it's just scary to know I will then just be doing this on my own 💪 xx

Well everyone who make it to conceiving and had to be on progesterone to support it have the same worry. Don't worry you don't need the pessaries throughout the gestation but only in the initial phase to support the pregnancy. Later after the conc. has reached to a certain level the amount your body produces suitaly supports the pregnancy. Only if there's any problem that your body is not able to take over the doc would have known it. In some case they prolong the progesterone use for support where there's any chance of odds. Certainly if they haven't already mentioned that to you and said you can come of you may as well do that. You just need to follow the instructions from your clinic and everything will be okay. Congratulations on your pregnancy!
