Do you feel a bit shaky on wakening? I sometimes feel this but blaming it on my terrible anxiety at the moment. I hate this time of day the most. Force some yoghurt down and then go for walk, it disappears. X

Yes, mainly in morning but intermittently through the day. Hands get shakey out of no where.

Are you more settled now? I’m the same, don’t know whether it’s nerves or low blood sugar. A glass of milk usually works for me. So depressed at mo.

I find it really scary. My husband is away with the kids for two nights and I actually feel quite nervous being by myself. My body just feels like it has a kind of its own. I’ve been given anti anxiety meds but until I see the gastroenterologist I’m reluctant to take them as they are not great for the liver.

I was given anti depressants but for the same reason they’re still in the packet. I’m on my own too. I can’t understand how nurse and radiologist say 100% you don’t have cirrhosis and Docs have said it too when people on here say don’t rely on US and LFTS , feel like I’m going to crack up. Seeing gastro in middle of August but trying to get early appointment.

It is really unnerving, so I feel for you, especially when you are on your own for a little while. Have a look at this page on hypoglycemia/reactive hypo and insulin resistance. I found that cutting my carbs and always having a little good fat (coconut or olive for me) and protein with starches has helped a lot. Little and regular - just a nut or two or a bit of boiled egg, whatever you prefer, to try to stop that rollercoaster drknews.com/high-blood-suga... Best wishes

Had a quick look at the article. Had to laugh. I wake exactly at 3.00 with anxiety. Keeps me up for an hour or so before I can get back to sleep.

Me too! I did for ages, with that horrid sense of doom and all shaky. Some suggest a bit of banana when you wake purehealthclinic.co.uk/2020...

I’ve been eating half a banana every time I felt shakey during the day. Just felt like what my body needed.

Very important not to just eat banana too often - they can really spike your blood sugar. Have a bit of banana with a tiny bit of protein or fat. I often have a bit of carrot with some coconut oil, or a walnut or brazil with a bite of banana. I have tried to cut bananas out, but like you I find they help, just not too much and always with something else. A glucose meter will really help you see what happens when you eat different foods and get your body stable (my basic kit was only £12, they are not expensive). Your brain cannot function without a balanced flow of glucose (and oxygen) and it will cascade into the rest of you not working well as a result. x

Yes, really strange, I had it terrible this morning, my heart raced too. Is it anxiety?

bookish profile image
bookish in reply to Worrysome1

Yes, in part it is the adrenals pouring out adrenaline and then cortisol to try to raise your low blood sugar, so you get shaky, heart pounding, sweaty - typical 'fight or flight' response. Really need to get the blood sugar peaks and troughs under control. It is truly fundamental for health. You might want to watch David Unwin youtube.com/watch?v=TEYtRiP... Good luck with your scan x

Thank you it was fine but I still think they’ve missed something. Consultant radiologist too.

Hopefully they haven't, but even if they have you can make big improvements yourself with diet and lifestyle changes. As Dr Unwin says, the liver can have a 'long silent scream' before it becomes diagnosable. So when we know things aren't right, we need to act. Best wishes

The shakiness and anxiety may well be due to your adrenals being called in to try to balance your blood sugar as it drops too low overnight. A good protein and fat breakfast is the best thing but you can do other things to support it (including exercise so you are doing well to walk). Datis Kharrazian's books on brain and thyroid both have chapters on blood sugar as it is so fundamental, and so badly controlled in most of us, or have a look at his page drknews.com/high-blood-suga.... I just treated myself to a glucose monitor and am very glad I did. Best wishes

Ketti-Oh yes I do - I was tested for it years ago the Lab took my blood than had me go eat a big breakfast with pancakes & syrup, eggs, potatoes sausage what ever I wanted than ii went back to Lab they continue to take blood every 30 mins for 2 hrs and yes I had gotten shaky and sweaty than tired just like I still do. Test came back positive my blood sugar spiked than fell straight down. But I also had Ges diabetes twice with both my pregnancy. But if I have the wrong food or not eat and im outside working I will get the shakes and sweat I’ll drink milk and eat a Hershey bar than I’ll fall asleep seems the older I get (57) I do try eat better sometimes I’ll still have a episode anyways. My doctor told me eat smaller meals thru out day. I hope this helps oh and I try keep my weight below 150 I’m 5”3 I hope you feel better soon. I also take a Beta Blocker because I have Tremors in my hands not bad just enough where it’s bothersome at times especially when I need write but after MRI & xrays found out it was something that I got from my dad and sadly I passed it on to 2 of my children. But I do need add I have Fatty Liver due to taking to much Tylenol I did stop and my numbers went down on my labs…

Thank you. Imhave been a bit like that my whole life also. Much worse at present. My mother also has an essential tremor.

My father, aunt and grandmother have/had essential tremor too but grandmother also had pernicious anaemia and became diabetic. Father and aunt better with B12 higher in range and blood sugar under control. Might be worth double checking your B12 as well as working on the hypoglycemia x (PS don't just take B12 - you need to be off for testing which is by no means perfect anyway).

I always make sure I take a few nuts out with me so I can have a tiny bit of protein regularly. If you don't have your own glucose monitor, I'd recommend getting one. I was getting peaks with meals I didn't expect and have managed to tweak my diet to keep on a more even footing. Best wishes to you
