Hi there. I also have Nash and type 2 diabetes. The best thing Idid was to visit a dietician who actually explained to me the workings of the liver and pancreas and insulin so that I understood. This is what I know so far. No alcohol, no sugar. Eat mostly wholewheat and Low GI foods. Very little fruit. Low fat milk and yoghurt rathe than full fat. No white flour. Exercise. But dont looseweight too fast as that is apparently bad for the liver. No inbetween snacking. (Which was a surprise with the diabetes?) I have been doing this for 3 weeks now. (Trying rather, as I still had some stuff I was not supposed to) Have not lost a lot of weight but did loose cm's. Going back again on 31st. Hopefully more weight loss then. Check on the site, you will find a link to a nash diet that was posted. There is a load of information available on this site. I think its thefatty liver foundation site.

I too have stage 4 but not a diabetic. I am in the research program for a cure for NASH. They have not insisted on any diet, but I have had NASH that I know of for 20 years. It has stayed stable most of the time. When I had several surgeries 4 years ago it did get worst because I was on a lot of pain meds which affected the liver has if I was a harsh drinker. Very little alcohol is allowed, NO RED MEAT. That is one of the hardest things your liver can digest and will make you have flu like symptoms if you eat it. Try to lose weight by doing the basic 4 food groups, using wheat grain and low fat. I was told no Keto diets. Lose slowly. When I started this journey I was 283, 20 years ago. I was down to 220, but up a little right now. When the liver doesn't digest well it is hard to lose and in Stage 4 it is not digesting well. They are increasing my trial meds in 2 weeks and I hope within a year this pill is successful and that everyone will have this cure. Get lots of rest, if feel tired sleep. I have crashing spells as I put it where the liver isn't functioning and my heart or kidneys don't either when that happens, just relax, go to bed and let it start working again. when you over work it, it will shut you down in a heart beat. The liver rules the body, if it doesn't work, you don't either.

I have a question if you can help.

I have had a fatty live for more then 20 years no one had made a big deal out of it until now. I’ve been having a slight pressure in my upper right abdomen for a year. I had a CT scan done a year ago the liver showed fatty but normal in size. I just had a ultrasound done yesterday. It showed my liver is fatty and swollen the right lobe is 21 cm the Dr said the high normal is 17. So I’m 4 CM larger then the high normal. Is you lived enlarged ? And does 21 CM sound mild or significant. Thank you John

I don't know the size of my liver but I know it is a lot bigger than normal. Some days it is smaller and some days it is so swollen it is hard to breath. Is your doctor a specialist. If not, it is time to get one. They are finding that many people that have heart attacks really is their liver shutting down. 1 out of 4 people now have NASH. Watch what you eat, because that can swell the liver if it is overworked. You will be extremely tired when the liver is over working. Read everything you can on fatty liver and NASH it will help a lot. Wait until the itching is extreme , that is not fun.

Thank you for the reply. I do see a gastro DR. I went to see her 6 months ago. I told her my abdomen felt full over my liver are when laying down. She felt around and said your being a hypochondriac and sent me on my way.

But my other Dr did the ultrasound and seen it was enlarged and my AST was 46 UL my ALT was 61 UL he said they were just a little elevated. My Bilirubin was in normal range. I don’t have any pain in the area it’s just a slight pressure when laying on my back. Again thanks for the information
