Knee pain

I’m findinding the 6 minute walking test awful because about half way through my knees begin to give me much more pain. I know my left is bone on bone but with the waiting just to get advice I’m not quite sure how much pain I should endure. My exercise bike cycling is improving which is also helping my general health but with several other health conditions I’m not sure how hard to push without making things worse. Please don t advise speaking to my dr as I live in Shropshire and that is almost impossible!

Hi Marmite55 - I'm so sorry to hear that you're having knee pain like this. The 6-minute walk test is not something you have to "pass", it's meant to be a check-in on how you are doing - so please stop once you start feeling pain like this! There's no obligation to continue through pain, especially when you know it's not simply discomfort from getting used to being active. Keep going with activities that have a lower impact on your knees - cycling sounds great, and if you have access to a pool, then aqua aerobics, aqua jogging, or just a swim are also great options!

The 6-minute walk test is also not compulsory, so it's fine to skip it if you know you're already in pain and would not be able to try without pain like this. I hope you can get your TKR soon!
