Walking for your health

Walking is one of our favourite activities because it’s easy to fit into our day, no matter how busy we get. The smallest amount of physical activity can make a huge difference to our health.

Take a walk with your loved ones along the river or your neighbourhood, go to the local park for a game of basketball or football. Walk to your next appointment at the doctor’s or walk your children to school.

Health benefits of walking:

- Increased cardiovascular and pulmonary (heart and lung) fitness

- Reduced risk of heart disease and stroke

improved management of conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), high cholesterol, joint and muscular pain or stiffness, and diabetes.

I walk everyday with my husband and run several times a week- normally with my running club, but sometimes on my own or with a friend.
