constipation (not impaction): lactulose or cosmocol

evening

my 7-year-old is pooing every other day but complaining that her poos are hard.

the GP agrees it's constipation and prescribed lactulose. She's having 5mls but producing explosive poos and complaining of stomach cramps.

will lactulose soften her stools? Or is cosmocol a better option.

thanks

Lactulose is pretty ineffective, I would switch.

lactulose gave my son diarrhoea and tummy ache. We switched (back) to Molvicol. I would talk to GP.
