Hi we are up to 8 sachets a day (starting 10 today) for my my 6yr old who they thought was impacted. Two days ago we had one explosion of brown water and since then just driples. Do I keep going or has it worked? Also how do you do the step down they say a soft poo a day but she's a pooholder long standing anxiety over pooing and ?sensory issues thank you

Work up to the maximum dose and don't stop giving the sachets until you see dusty rusty water looking poo for 3 consecutive day's, then reduce down by one sachet every 3 days until you reach a suitable maintenance dose that achieves type 4 stools on the Bristol stool chart. As a witholder add a stimulant such as senna to the regime.

Without sounding disgusting, what is the texture of the dribbles? Can you see any bits and are they still gritty or are they soft bits of food? It will be able to let you know if there’s still bits of the blockage coming out.

When you are pretty sure the blockage is gone, reduce the sachets slowly, say 1/2-1 sachet down every 3-4 days until you reach a maintenance dose that achieves 1-3 soft snake like poos every day.

If she’s a with holder then, if you haven’t already, start installing a toilet routine, after each meal. And we’ve found using blowing things like bubbles, straw in water, balloons helps with gaining muscle control and will take her mind off actually pooing.

Hope that helps!

She sounds pretty well there - I would just take it very slowly down - the quicker you do it, the more likely you will have to do it again.

My daughter is 6years old so I can explain that the Dr has asked her to drink this medicine. I have discovered she doesn't like it in cold drinks so I mix two sachets in 125mls cold water then i heat up 80mls of full fat milk and mix the two then she drinks it through a chocolate straw or I mix it with warm blackcurrant cordial. When she was a baby we used it and mixed it with jelly and angel delights.

Thank you so much for such a quick reply. Lets try it in some jelly and see if she likes it or not😊😊
