Hi, I've only just come across this site and reading a few other posts to see if any one has a similar experience to me. I haven't found one so far so thought I'd make my own post. My daughter is 2, happy, healthy and otherwise everything seems very good with her, but since introducing solids into her diet at around 9 months she has a habit of going very tense when pooing. She stands totally rigid, she sometimes thumps her chest or wrings her hands and goes red in the face. Sometimes after this happens she has produced a poo, more often there is no poo and it could happen several times before she produces a poo. She says it doesn't hurt, but I'm not sure how true this is. I don't think she is constipated, yesterday she poo'd 3 times and they were big and soft. Today she hasn't yet poo'd but she has had several of her funny tensing, thumping and going red in the face turns. I think she has a healthy well balanced diet and eats lots of vergetables. She also still breastfeeds sometimes and also enjoys drinking water, coconut water, goats milk and sometimes herbal tea from my cup so i think she's well hydrated. I've done some online research and found the term dyschazia, it sounds sort of similar but I'm not really sure. I just came across the term witholding here on this site.
She's still in nappies, she's just starting to show interest in using a potty. But when the funny turns happen she seems unable to bend her legs to sit or squat, so she always poos standing up. I try to pick her up and try to bend them for her but they're locked solid. She's done 2 poos in the potty so far, but nothing for a few weeks now. Not sure if it's psychological and she's tensing to hold the poo in and if it's a matter of learning how to get her to relax, or if it's something more physical that needs to be treated in some way. Like I said it doesn't seem like she's constipated, she poos very regularly (1-3 times per day). If anybody has any experience of this sort of thing or any advice I'd love to hear. Many thanks.
