Is there examples of when a person has a seizure, they might burst out swearing, quite loud, quite out of character for that person?

I have JME epilepsy, had it for over fifty years, but have heard that a person is badly upset by my swearing at them, they being ignorant of my usual self and medical condition, they wrote me a letter later, saying they did not know I had epilepsy, normally such a quiet person, a real history nerd👍! I had an aunt who rang me up and said the most hurtful things, really let go, down the phone, she died a few days later, whether she had a seizure then that I will never know? I have seen plenty of people having seizures, but never heard anybody whilst having a seizure, shouting at anybody like that? Does it happen whilst certain people are having seizures?

Hi Adlon,

I have had experience with folk who have epilepsy, and in my experience it isn't common, but can happen. In those I have seen, it happens usually before the Clonic part of the seizure, although the recovery phase can also be difficult when the patient is recovering and may fight off the helper.

Hope this helps,

Cheers, Midori

Thanks Midori this is something I had suspicions about, but might explain a lot, I have juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, and could well explain reactions from certain medical staff at a local hospital, I knew I was a regular in their A&E one of the ambulance drivers "you're such a regular down here, they were thinking of naming a ward after you!" Of course I remember nothing about the seizures, I am currently downsizing from my house, been there 21 years, one of my neighbours nicknamed "Mr Ambulance man!" [in good spirit] I am moving to an apartment, coincidently 400 metres from this local hospital🙄

I've certainly shouted and/or used language I'd never normally use, have absolutely no memory of such whilst in a seizure, but occasionally a vague memory of doing such, in a post seizure state.

"Regular in A & E", local hospital ? Are you a hated figure then, facing a multitude of nonsensical, false allegations and/or being beaten by the NHS locally ? It's dreadful to think of all those things I've allegedly done, though being of a pedantic sort , I do tend to rely on fact (Nb. Fact has proved of little worth, from a legal perspective )

It would explain a lot, that particular hospital, and its general behaviour against myself, I do not like that hospital and obviously they don't like me, my GP is perfectly aware of our feelings toward each other, I have mentioned it on numerous occasions, thus as far as possible he refers me to different nearby hospitals, I am lucky in that respect as there are a least five main hospitals within a twenty mile radius, I live about eight miles south-west of Belfast!

Another example in 2016, at the local hospital A&E I went in with shingles, they 'pretended' to be deaf🙄 I was shouting at them, then suddenly realised [shingles - unclean childish funny?😖] I marched out, they were actually laughing at me, I went straight to a good friend of mine local health shop, he gave me some cream, it soon cleared up, usually caused by pressure as far as I am concerned, although only time I had had shingles!

Yes I have been asking around close friends and relatives I do swear etc. when I have a seizure, almost regularly, thus explaining my suspicion, of course I cannot remember any of my epileptic seizures, but I DO remember their 'medical treatment'🙄 they have dealt on myself over my life, so I have been "blacklisted" by them thus my "treatment" by this local hospital when I darken their doors for ANY medical condition, probably from the start of my epilepsy in 1970 to present, I have been life time disabled with a medical cv a "one off" as my GP regularly calls me! An unusual name, so easy to remember [I would so like to see some of the 'medical records' they have on me?] A very good chance of cutting my life expectancy, as I have lived in this area since 1961, thus I name this "local hospital" Lagan Valley Hospital, Lisburn! I am positive this has happened with many other patients, all over the world, but the staff just have not got the intelligence to realise the patients are COMPLETELY unaware of their "behaviour"!
