Severe lack of motivation

having developed Trigeminal Neuralgia in 2023 from the impact of my Acoustic Neuroma, I started Carbamazepine in Dec 2023.

Although this has reduced headaches considerably I’m now left (6months on) with severe motivation issues. I just struggle to do anything other than respond.

Almost certainly due to Carbamazepine, has anyone found a way to tackle this please? I’m finding the lack of motivation quite depressing.

Sorry to hear you feel like this. I was on carbamazepine (Tegretol retard) slow-release for over 25 years (due to epilepsy starting after temporal lobe brain surgery in 1989), 1995 to 2022. Took it along with clobazam (a benzodiazepine) too. I managed to maintain a high-tech management job with a chemical company. I only had to come off it due to mounting side-effects.... increased SHBG, low vitamin D, high cholesterol always had a skin rash so took loratadine antihistamine which calmed that down. I was fully motivated during all that time. I'm actually a little bit less motivated now... either due to now being on Briviact, or just because I'm getting older (64) and not working 🤷‍♂️🤔. I hope you manage to overcome your issues 💜🤞.
