Epilepsy and beauty treatment contraindications

hi

I was just wondering if people knew why epilepsy is a contraindication for some beauty treatments?

I can understand the reasoning in some of these, eg laser hair removal due to flashing lights, but what about others?

I have been looking into Fat Freezing/Cryolipolysis and have read that epilepsy is a contraindication for this. Does anyone understand why this is so?

many thanks!

Hi Happygolarry

Here is a link to our information on some beauty treatment and epilepsy. This also covers what to do if you feel you are being treated unfairly. epilepsy.org.uk/living/dail...

We have not come across this procedure before. We have done a search on any risks for people with epilepsy and we were unable to find any. But again, we don’t know anything about this procedure.

If a salon or therapist refuses to treat you, ask them why. They might have been taught that certain treatments are unsuitable for people with epilepsy. But often this is down to not really understanding the condition.

When they explain the reason, please do feel free to contact our helpline team. You can message on here or email helpline@epilepsy.org.uk or the Epilepsy Action Helpline freephone 0808 800 5050. Our helpline is open Monday to Friday 8.30am until 5.00pm and Saturday 10.00am until 4.00pm

Hi

Those aren’t treatments I know about but would be interested in what answers you get .

I used to get microdermabrasion 4/6 weekly, and the salon I used (and trust) said they’d not do it now unless my gp signed a disclaimer (I’d not waste my gps time by asking & I don’t think it’s a service the gp practice even provide).

From looking at that salon, all treatments are pretty much the same in that regard.lt doesn’t seem to be limited to specific treatments that could trigger seizures in some people, or could be contraindicated with any epilepsy treatment.
