Is there a timeframe in which someone has to have 2 seizures for a diagnosis to be made? Also, what other testing and referrals should be carried out?

Diagnosing epilepsy
Hi Dawn,
When my partner went to the doctor about his seizures he’d had two in the space of two days, and then none for three weeks since. A doctor would recommend that you visit them even if your seizure is a one off as it’s important to know what caused it.
Hope this helps x
Hi Dawn43
Thanks for your message. It’s good to see you’ve already received a response.
There’s no set timeframe between seizures for a diagnosis of epilepsy to be made. It’s usually diagnosed by a specialist, usually a neurologist by listening to a full description of the person’s symptoms.
They may also arrange for some tests to be carried. These could include an MRI, EEG and blood tests. We’ve got more information around diagnosis and tests here -epilepsy.org.uk/info/diagnosis
