Does anyone feel that when you do too much or rush around, it feels like a focal seizure is coming on?

Hi,

I understand what you mean I get the same feeling especially if I have been really absorbed and not realised I have over done it.

Thanks for replying. Im glad im not the only one who feels the same at times. It can be hard to explain to people who dont have epilepsy what it feels like.

Recently found out after 2 and a half years that its temporal lobe epilepsy due to mesial temporal sclerosis and shrinkage in the hippocampus on one side.

Hi,

Yes it is very difficult to describe epilepsy and focal seizures to people who don’t have or understand epilepsy. No one is ever alone.

I must say I am a little jealous that you have found out which epilepsy you have. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and still cannot figure out what triggers mine fully and they are not getting any better.

My first seizure was in Jan 2021, diagnosed in March 2021 after a second seizure. Its only through contacting PALS nearly 3 weeks ago at the hospital and explaining that in all this time I hadnt been told what type etc so after 4 seizures, the last one being 1st september this year (lasting around 10 minutes and was unconscious until the following morning) neurologist arranged for a longer appointment to explain everything.

Give that a try and make it clear that you want to know everything, its our brains at the end of the day, we have a right to know whether neurologists are concerned or not.

Hi,

Thank you for the advice I was actually diagnosed later in October 2021 only after one large tonic clonic seizure in September 2021. I will talk to them more at my next appointment. Lucky for me I have only had focal seizures since then even though they are really intense and scary

I know what you mean regarding focal seizures. I have them regularly but not as much since being prescribed Lacosamide. I was prescribed Leviticeratam (keppra) when i had the diagnosis. From what ive been told a diagnosis is given after 2 seizures so id ask about that as well. Also enquire about an eeg. I had one 2 months after 3rd seizure in April 2022, which showed no abnormal electrical activity.
