Travelling from Ireland to Canada

My adult daughter has been seizure free from epilepsy for almost 10 years. This year she is going to Canada from Ireland to visit her sister. She is concerned about the time zone and taking her medication. She generally takes her meds at 8 in the morning and 8 in the evening. I have been trying to explain that she just needs to take it at 12 midnight and 12 midday while on holidays and that there would be no need to try and bring it back to 8, as she will only be there for 3 weeks. Any advice welcome.

Many thanks, over protective mother.

Hi Sport10

Generally when people are travelling, it would be advisable to firstly see if the time they take their epilepsy medicine needs changing. It all depends on the time difference and how long they are going away for.

For short visits, some people may keep their UK time for taking the epilepsy medicine and set an alarm to remind them.

For long stays, some people may adjust their medicine time gradually to come in time with where they are visiting.

The important thing is to find the best way for you, to make sure you take your epilepsy medicine at regular intervals.

We have our travel advice webpage that you both may find helpful epilepsy.org.uk/living/dail...

I hope your daughter has an amazing time.

Regards

Diane

When I went to Canada from Ireland a few years ago, I took mine in Canada time during my stay there. My flights from Ireland were early in the morning which helped and by the time I got to Canada it was time for bed... Lol. Hope this helps x

Yes it certainly does, Thank you. It will give her the confidence to do the same, as she too leaves early in the morning with a direct flight to Vancouver.

I have been on low dose Ramipril for some years. Two years ago I had the 1st of 3 epileptic seizures. On the Ramipril leaflet it states that one of the RARE side effects of Ramipril is seizures. My neurologist dismissed this as possible cause of my seizures and I'm still on it but also on low dose of Levitarasium (sp?) - been seizure free since. It will be interesting to know if there are any more links with Ramipril and Seizures.Good luck
