Piracetam

I’m currently away from the U.K. and unfortunately had two seizures in 5 days - I’ve never had this happen before - my normal interval is over a year. I spent 4 days in hospital, all in all a fairly awful week.

The neurologist here has added Piracetam to my meds (lamotragine and keppra). I’m a little nervous about this. Has anyone used it, is it reasonably ok in side effects terms? Will also talk to my neurologist back home.

Sorry to hear that! Hope it got better already!

Piracetam is an old molecule without notable anticonvulsive merits on its own, outside myoclonic seizures.

However, it does promote cerebral perfusion as well as, when used as adjunctive therapy, increases efficiency of the main AEDs

Hi GillyA

It must have been a scary time in hospital abroad. I’m not sure if you are home yet, but as you say, it would be good to contact your epilepsy team when you are home.

Here is a link to information on piracetam that you may find helpful: bnf.nice.org.uk/drugs/pirac...
