I’ve just started back on Lamotrigine after a few years off it and have had really vivid dreams, sometimes a dream within a dream which I eventually wake up from and my mind is buzzing afterwards and can’t get back to sleep. Has anyone else experienced this or is it just coincidence or getting used to the meds again as I titrate back up to full dose.
Thanks

That’s interesting, I started lamotragine just before Christmas and got to full dose a couple of weeks ago.
I’ve had two or three very vivid and rather unpleasant dreams that were enough for me to continue worrying about the issues after I woke up, taking some time to realise it wasn’t real. I normally don’t remember my dreams.
I hadn’t associated it with the drugs - life has been pretty stressful as I come to terms with a seizure which resulted in 4 days in hospital with concussion and subsequent plastic surgery. (Hence adding lamotragine to my keppra). Will have to reread the leaflet.
Thanks for the reply and hope you are on the road to recovery.
I’ve had a look on the leaflet, it mentions nightmares but mine have been just so vivid rather than disturbing.
I started on Keppra originally, but was struggling with concentration and memory. It was down as a rare side effect and I found Lamotrigine wasn’t as bad.
Hello Steve, yes, I have been dreaming a lot ever since I started taking Lamotrogine some 11 years ago, and you are right, it does disturb the sleeping. Not quite as often or vivid as they used to be. But I also take Keppra as well and I have been seizure free since the middle of June 2014 . I must admit that I would rather be seizure free and put up with side effects and be able to drive!
At age 72 I was diagnosed with Epilepsy. I now have very vivid dreams some of which are quite disturbing. Luckily when i wake I have very little memory of them. I also take lamotrigine 150 x2 a day, I am only 6stone 3 pound unable to take high doses. Hate the side effects with a passion. started with Keppra family noticed that I was getting a little "angry" at times so was taken off it.
