I have been unable to take the medication as I have allageyies to the medication. I am in limbo waiting on what happens now. Sorry I am unable to help. I hope your epilepsy is sorted out soon.

Hi Cerida

My 17 year old son has been seizure free for 18 months now and takes 75 mgs lamotrigine in the morning and evening.

I can’t remember if our consultant said he could start coming off the meds after 4 or 5 years for us.

Best wishes.

Yes, out of the blue, one late evening in early May, then a month later early morning upon waking. He was then put on lamotrigine and has been seizure free since.

He has recently got his provisional driving licence, we tried not to make a big deal about it (although huge milestone ) as know things can change at any time.

Wishing you all the best.

Hopefully, this will encourage you....and you already have had some encouraging responses....scary as this epilepsy may be.

I'm 82, but I was a sudden teen epileptic as well. I had two TC when I was 15 and one when I was 16. (I'm in the states) After being given meds, I had no more but an increase in petit mal...staring off..kind of dropping out for a bit.

I had a seizure at 31 and one at either 35-37...and that was it. I still take meds and have had to increase just three years ago when I started steroid treatment for GCA. I just got that old familiar feeling and my neurologist put me on Keppra, which suits me fine.

So, there is a big normal life out there for your teen....I will say this, I've never been completely off all meds. All those years between 37 and age 79, I was taking 1mg clonazepam and 200 mg primidone for maintenance. I'll take a pill any day....diabetics have to take insulin, so I'll take my meds. Apparently, I need something to control the electricity in my brain. 💞

It's been a year since your post. How is your child doing and what drug and dosage? My 16yr old daughter had first one out of the blue. Been 7mos now. She has had 6 total. All tonic/clonic. She has been on 3500mg Keppra. All good until last weekend she had two TC seizures. We are switching to Lamictal.
