Has anyone ever experienced severe depression a couple weeks after hospitalization for grand mal seizures?

Hi there. Following a grand mal seizure a while back I don’t recall depression after hospitalization. I do many times though remember much depression taking place following my hospitalizations after a complex partial seizure. It has been with me for some time now. So I know where you are coming from.

I had three partial seizures in my sleep two weeks ago then the very next day I had seven grand mals and was hospitalized two days and two nights

Now from what you just said. Such a pattern of seizures can very well result with depression. The brain is overwhelmed and with that the neurons can become unbalanced.

Seizures during sleep. I haven’t experienced such. Or maybe I have. According to my EEGS, seizures were least active at night. Yours on the other hand are different with a grand mal following shortly after. I feel they are connected. Best to have an EEG or an MRI done to get more details on what is actually going on.

I have all those tests :((( they all came back completely normal. So I was diagnosed with pseudo seizures. Now they just keep happening and drs who have seen it say it’s not that. I started having seizures Jan 1st 2016 when I was twenty four years old

A lot of my seizures happen at night. Grand mal and partial. When I woke up in the hospital the last night my jaw was nearly fractured from convulsing in my sleep and slamming my head on my dresser. I woke up soaked in pee and blood and barely made it to my grandmas who lives right beside me before I passed out and had seven more grand mals back to back without waking up in between them. And my seizures lasted for over five mins so they called the ambulance. They said I had more in the ambulance and in the hospital and they said I started screaming and fighting people and my husband and sister had to hold me down so they could sedate. I went into a coma one time for a week because every time I came to I’d fight and rip out my ivs

Sorry to hear your seizures have become that severe. I as well have increased on aggression. Had to be watched 24/7. It was never known what my seizures would result me doing. People had to get me under control too.

With all the action you said take place during your seizures it represents a high level of activity in the brain. Your grand mal have massive reactions. I have heard about physical but your experience shows it is more severe. Hopefully the drs are able to get these seizures under control.

For the moment so the seizures do no more harm to you sedation may be the best until a conclusion is found. I know it isn’t a way you wish to go. So many directions I went I wish I haven’t gone either.

I also understand how frustrating this to you. I am with you on this.

I have been experiencing anxiety and depression, mainly from when my seizures returned last summer. I went five years seizure-free after having surgery back in 2012, but the grand mal last June severely affected me. My memory has drastically been affected, especially short-term. After not driving for six years, I was able to get my license back. Very unlikely that I will ever drive an automobile from here on out. As a born epileptic (even though I wasn't diagnosed until fourteen), I've tried several medications, along with the operation. None of them controlled my seizures (mainly auras, but some grand mals), and some had rough side effects. What I promise you: The only medication that controls my seizures is Marijuana, which is also relaxing, helps me sleep, and still allows me to function normally without the side effects (other than tired and hungry). I started smoking at seventeen, and at first just for the relaxation. Honestly, I was worried for the side effects that this "illegal drug" (back then, anyway) may have on me, along with having to hide and keep it away from most people, including family. Now that it's legal in my state for medical purposes and I have my license, I know for a fact that my seizures are controlled as long as I have marijuana. I smoke for seizure control, sleep, and relaxation. I enjoy sharing my story via sites and blogs, and plan on writing a book. For what has mostly been considered an illegal drug everywhere I have been, I can say with pride that Marijuana controls my seizures and improves my quality of life. Not everyone will agree/support my story, but what I do know: A natural plant controls my disability that seven prescription drugs and brain surgery were not able to. Best of luck to all of you!

I am pro marijuana for medicine and relaxation for anxiety. But,alas, it is illegal in my state. As a mother to a three year old,who’s applying for disability and pain management, I can’t risk being drug tested and failing. If I ever lost my baby and my husband I’d have no reason to live. They are my entire world. If it ever becomes legal in my state,which it should if the govt would quit trying to control a natural plant.
