I take 500mg of Keppra twice a day to control my clonic tonic seizures. I’ve been told this is a low dose, but it has been affective in keeping me seizure free. Has anyone had experience with weening themselves off of Keppra (or other anti convulsants) and replacing with CBD?

Hi
From the 1st November 2018 epilepsy specialists will be able to prescribe cannabis-based treatments for epilepsy without having to apply for a licence. But they will only be able to do this for patients with “exceptional clinical need.” This means that they will only be able to prescribe it to patients whose seizures aren’t successfully controlled by other forms of treatment. So it would be unlikely that a specialist would be able to prescribe cannabis-based treatments for you because Keppra is controlling your seizures. If you’re wanting to stop taking Keppra we would recommend that you discuss it with your epilepsy specialist, epilepsy nurse or GP first. This is because your seizures may return if you stop taking the your epilepsy medicine.
We have some more information on cannabis-based treatments on our website that you might find helpful (epilepsy.org.uk/info/treatm... and the latest update on the prescribing of cannabis-based treatments (epilepsy.org.uk/news/news/s....
