Bus pass

Hi All,

I've just got my application for a free bus pass due to being disabled and I just read the section for medically unfit to drive ( the box I ticked) epilepsy is in that section and so is other now it says can't get nhs Dr help here so don't try it but the proof thay want is a up to date dvla letter saying that dvla has refused you a licence or ask for it back due to medical reasons now hang on what if you fit say yearly or under that so never got a driving licence because you know you don't meet the legal requirements and every year would have to hand it back so just became a good person knowing that you were a weapon behind the wheel and used the bus or other forms of public transport? I've been doing that for over 15-20 years and now that I need a bus pass just incase I need to see to my benefits as I'm actually on a travel ban taxis or cars only no buses Dr's orders but if I have to go to my job centre for benifits I can by bus and suffer later but the dvla part I don't go long enough to apply to them even just for id purposes and I have spinal spasms on top of my epilepsy so I'm definitely not safe to drive. So how do you get the letter

Hi,

Although you don’t go long enough between seizures to be granted a licence, there is nothing to stop you applying. You can apply for a licence, telling them about your epilepsy. They will then send you a letter to say that your application has been refused on medical grounds.

I hope this information helps.

Regards

Jess

This is a case of cost cutting by the councils if you are unfit to drive due to a medical condition including epilepsy you are entitled to one. It clearly states in the transport act that a person with long term epilepsy does no require a letter refusing them a licence as applying would be a waste of time and money for all parties involved. Report this to your MP and there is a petition to get it raised in parliament and details are available on the EA site I had the issue and resolved it by bring the transport act to the councils attention
