My local hospital has an epilepsy nurse, but when she's on holiday or somewhere else if you need to talk to her and she's got no stand in what do you do then?

Hi Glyndy. I was fortunate enough to have a wonderful epilepsy nurse, who often did talks for Epilepsy Action and was very well liked in my local epilepsy community. If he was on holiday I didn't get an appointment unless I called to say I needed an urgent consultation (which was rare, as he made the right choices for me and really had my epilepsy under control). He's left my hospital now, so I see the head neurologist.

I hope this helps! All the best xx

Both of the hospitals where I have seen epilepsy nurses had two, so there would always be one available. In both places I was given a contact number where I could leave a message and they would always get back to me within a couple of days.

They are only for non-emergencies anyway, so if you have an urgent enquiry you should contact your neurologist's secretary directly.

Hope this helps,

Amy
