Need advice please 😞

I have had my gynaecologist appointment today after being referred over a year ago. The referral appointment was meant to still be a month away however I got this appointment due to having to visit A&E with severe pain, where the gynaecologist put in a request for the appointment urgently. I have suffered with ‘bad periods’ since 15, I have been on the pill for 10 years and this kept my periods manageable. I came off the pill as I didn’t want the hormones as they affected my mental health. Since coming off the pill I’ve had horrendous periods, severe pain throughout the month, heavy bleeding, irregular periods. At the appointment today the male doctor told me it could just be bad periods after my ultrasound came back clear and he advised it couldn’t be Endometriosis and he thinks it’s a hormonal imbalance. Could this be true? I’m booked in for a Laparoscopy to rule out Endometriosis as I explained I cannot cope anymore with the severity of the pain. I have to attended A&E most months for morphine which still doesn’t do much for pain relief. I just feel lost, I just want an answer as to why I’m in so much pain. Does anyone know if a hormonal imbalance can cause such painful periods, also could hormone imbalance show on blood tests?

When you read different studies it says there's no such thing as painful periods there must be a cause. It's so hard to get any help with it all. I take Oramorph when it gets really bad it takes the edge off it but doesn't stop it. It seems like sometimes it's hard to find on scans. Mine was seen with an internal scan but the radiographer had it herself and I think I was lucky to get her as she spotted it straight away.

Hope you can get help don't doubt how you feel though keep pushing for answers. X

Thank you. It’s just made me question myself when two consultants say they suspect it’s endo and then one just point blank says no and tried to leave me with it’s just bad periods. Got my laparoscopy in a few weeks though so at least it’s moving in the right direction to getting answers x

Hi there, don't doubt yourself. This is why there is such a fight for the cause. Endometriosis should be diagnosed with a laprosxopy really. Mine did not show on an ultrasound. I believe an MRI can detect it at times but not an ultrasound. It sounds like the Dr you spoke to was ill advised or not experienced in Endometriosis. You have the right to request a laprosxopy to diagnose. Wishing you the best of luck. If it helps you feel better- I was told it was in my head because my mom had it, I wanted to believe I had it too! I was 23 at the time. Now 38 xx

I'm 50 with stage 4 endometriosis. Told all my life it was something other than endo. Now it has fused everything and I can't have a hysterectomy. I'm hemorrhaging every day. Stand your ground and push forward. He doesn't know! I was told again and again "it's very unlikely its endometriosis" and basically that I was just a complainer who couldn't handle my periods. Wait for your lap and ignore him.
